One of the country's largest urban centers, it radiates a more relaxed atmosphere than the capital. Set on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake, at an altitude of 1,140 meters, Entebbe spans 56.2 km² of which 20 km² is water. Part of Wakiso District, Entebbe is home to approximately 90,000 inhabitants.

Known for its calm and pleasant character, this destination combines historical monuments and natural heritage to captivate its visitors. Echoes of the Past
The city's name in Luganda, "Entebbe," means "seat" because the Baganda chief would sit here to adjudicate matters. From 1893 until the early 1960s, the city had been chosen to serve as Uganda's capital.
The Raid on Entebbe
It is primarily this tragic event that has marked Entebbe's history. Also known as the Operation Entebbe or Operation Thunderbolt, this raid concerns the hostage-taking of the night of July 3-4, 1976, at Entebbe International Airport, Uganda's principal international airport. It was organized by Israeli military forces to liberate hostages from a plane hijacked by a commando unit composed of members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Revolutionary Cells. It was a success for the Israelis, as they freed nearly all of the hostages. Entebbe International Airport thus became the stage for this historic event.
Today, the city of Entebbe remains dynamic, though the country's capital is now Kampala, located 35 km to the north.
