Weather in Uganda

Uganda's tropical climate is marked by two distinct seasons: the rainy season from March to May and September to November, and the dry season from December to February and June to August. Rainfall can be heavy on any given day, though it doesn't prevent travel. Still, it's preferable to visit Uganda during the dry season, when the country's national parks are more accessible and wildlife appears more abundant. That said, it's equally wise to avoid school holiday periods, which draw significant tourist crowds.

Temperatures range between 17°C and 30°C depending on region and season. Nights are cool yet pleasant, averaging 16°C. December through January are the warmest months.

The Perfect Time to Explore Eastern Uganda

If you're planning to visit the East's attractions, including the Mount Elgon National Park and Sipi Falls, the period from June through September is ideal. You can also visit in January or February. The months of March, April, May, and June are best avoided if you want comfortable travel. While temperatures remain pleasant, rainfall can hamper birdwatching opportunities.

The Best Season for Southern Uganda

Southern Uganda is home to natural wonders including the renowned Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mutanda, the famous Lake Victoria, Lake Mburo National Park, and Mgahinga Gorillas National Park. While exploring the south, you can discover Fort Portal, Uganda's largest city. The ideal period for visiting this region spans December through February, as well as June through early September. This window offers excellent conditions for hiking. April should be avoided due to heavy rainfall in the area.

The Best Time to Travel Western Uganda

Among the gems to discover in western Uganda, the Budongo Forest Reserve and the Murchison Falls National Park are must-sees. Both sites can be visited year-round. However, to make the most of your journey, visiting from March through June is an excellent choice. During this period, weather conditions are ideal for safari and hiking in the region.
