French citizens and foreign tourists in general must obtain a visa to enter Uganda.

Since 2016, it has been possible to submit an e-visa application through the Uganda E-Immigration System website. The process is relatively straightforward.

An e-visa for Uganda

The electronic visa is today the only solution for obtaining entry rights to Uganda. To do so, you must visit the E-Immigration website and follow the required steps. For a tourist stay, you will need to apply for a Category L tourist visa. This will allow you to stay between 7 and 30 days in the country.

A form must be completed carefully and supporting documents must be properly scanned. You will be asked to provide:

  • A copy of your passport,
  • Your up-to-date vaccination certificate (yellow fever),
  • A recent passport-sized photo,
  • Payment of the visa fee of 50 USD.

You will receive a response quickly by email. You will need to print this entry authorization issued in order to present it to border services upon your arrival in Uganda. Please note that this visa allows for single entry only. If you wish to leave the country to travel to Kenya, for example, you will need to submit a new Uganda visa application before you can return.

A unified East Africa Tourist Visa

For travelers wishing to combine a stay in Uganda with Rwanda and/or Kenya, it is possible to apply for a unified visa called the East Africa Tourist Visa. The application is also completed online on the same website.

You will then obtain a visa valid for 6 months (for French citizens) from the date of issue, or valid for 3 months (for Belgian and Swiss citizens). This unified visa will cost you 100 USD.
