Traveling by Road in Ouganda
The country has a reasonably well-developed road network, though some routes are occasionally poorly maintained. Road traffic can be chaotic in major cities like Kampala, but this is the case in most large urban centers worldwide.
In Ouganda, there are numerous road transport options to get around the cities, travel between towns and regions, or venture into Ouganda's wild landscapes.
Boda-bodas
For short trips, try boda-bodas during your time in Ouganda. These motorcycle taxis are an essential part of city travel and very practical for getting from one point to another. Drivers are generally helpful and maintain fairly cautious driving habits.
Matatus or Taxis
For trips between two towns or villages, you can opt for a matatu. These are minivans that travel across the country from one point to another. Journeys are not always the most comfortable since matatus are often packed to capacity. It could be a great opportunity to meet local people.
Buses
Long-distance buses are quite old but remain relatively comfortable. They are especially useful for covering long distances between the country's main cities.
Private Vehicle with Driver
The best way to travel in Ouganda is to opt for a private car with driver. Comfort is assured, and you'll have greater freedom regarding your departure times and stops. Your journeys will also be more secure.
Air Transport in Ouganda
Ouganda does not have an airline operating domestic flights. Besides Entebbe International Airport (which is actually the country's only international airport), Ouganda has very few airports.
If your budget allows, you can arrange with private air companies to charter private flights and quickly reach the country's top destinations.
